1. Can you tell us a little about yourself and what initially brought you to Element Fitness Health Club?
I initially joined South Pacific Health Club in the city through my employer, and was able to benefit from the Nunawading gym as well. Shortly after that, it transitioned to Element.
2. What were your fitness goals when you first joined, and how have they evolved over time?
My initial goals were simply to be a bit fitter and stronger. I think I’ve achieved that, and now I’m focused on continuing to build my strength for activities like hiking.
3. Can you tell us 2 ways being a member at Element Fitness Health Club has helped you achieve your fitness goals?
Element has provided many opportunities, particularly through the various challenges, as well as the chance to work out alongside some really fit and motivated people.
4. Can you list a couple of specific accomplishments or milestones you’ve reached since joining us?
I managed to get down to my body weight from 25 years ago. That wasn’t really a goal, but it was a great milestone. Now I’m focused on building muscle mass while maintaining cardiovascular fitness.
5. What are your favourite things about Element Fitness Health Club?
The many machines and equipment, the classes, the friendly staff, and all the other keen members.
6. Can you tell us about a memorable experience or favourite moment you’ve had at the gym?
A highlight was when I first back squatted my body weight. I’m lifting a little less at the moment, but I’m building back up again. Ultimately, I want to be able to squat 1.5 times my body weight.
7. How do you stay motivated to maintain a consistent workout routine?
I’m always focused on getting a PB, whether that’s in the weights I lift, the distance I row, or the height I climb on the StairMaster.
8. What’s one piece of advice you would give to someone just starting their fitness journey?
Focus on setting and pursuing achievable goals, and once you smash them, gradually raise the bar.
9. How has being part of the Element Fitness Health Club community impacted your fitness journey?
I’ve made a number of great friends here, and it’s always a place where you can have a chat.
10. What would you say to someone considering joining Element Fitness Health Club?
Just join. But don’t expect instant results. Improving your fitness is a marathon, not a sprint.
11. What is a fun fact about you that many people don’t know?
When I’m not working out at Element, I play trombone in a big band. Our next gig is at the Retreat Hotel in Brunswick on Thursday 18 June. Details here if you want to check it out
